Autumn Adagio
JAPAN / 2009 / Video(HD) / 70min / with English subtitles / DONGYU CLUB&INC
- Story
- Never looking forward nor pondering the past, Sister Maria plays her weekly hymns on the church organ. Outside, leaves turns dull shades of brown as autumn passes in a silent haze, marking the sister’s fortieth year. Hers is a life peacefully accepted as one devoted to God.
With the changing seasons also comes a sense of disquiet within the nun. Old age will approach all too soon. Sister Maria is then drawn into three different encounters with three different men. Each one releases within her a powerful inexperienced response, but these new feelings give her a sense of release. She begins to question her previous conceptions about life and about her own sense of self. Her confusion leads to a newfound openness towards fresh emotions. Sister Maria’s music is played with a new passion and the autumn leaves contain a new vividness of color.
